Use Campus 3 location for business or keep a theater
After opening in 1981, Campus 3 Theaters is set to run its last reel on April 30. As the only commercial theater in the downtown area, its closing continues the disheartening depreciation of the Old Capitol Town Center. This Editorial Board would like to see the space used wisely and, if at all possible, continually used as a commercial destination. In recent months, Campus 3 has primarily shown smaller, more independent films that Sycamore Cinema 12 and Coral Ridge 10 opted not to screen. The smaller theater was also one of the few theaters in the United States to debut Borat on time, along with displaying more award-considered films such as The Last King of Scotland. However, Marcus Theatres Corp. bought both Coral Ridge 10 and Sycamore Cinema 12 but passed on Campus 3, essentially sealing its death.
Brodhead organizes its first CROP Walk in 30 years
For the first time, walkers will take to the streets on the same day-Sunday afternoon-in Janesville, Milton and Brodhead to raise money and awareness for local hunger-fighting organizations and Church World Service. Church World Service helps communities respond to disasters, resettles refugees, promotes fair national and international policies and provides educational resources. The organization receives 75 percent of CROP Walk donations to help people around the world. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local organizations. "We jump in a car and drive to a doctor's appointment or to the grocery store," Diane said. "Most people in the world don't have that luxury, so they have to walk to gather food, to produce food. Often, people have to walk to a river or hopefully a well-and even that's not as common as you would think-to get water for their family's daily needs." Area churches organize the walk, but anyone can participate.

Albemarle man's organs continue to save others
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- More than a year after Jeremy Parr was fatally shot, his mother still sees his friends around Charlottesville wearing his old leather jacket and other clothing that he gave away. "He'd give anyone anything he had when he was living," said Annie Parr, an Albemarle County resident. "Now that he's passed away, he's given the gift of life." After Jeremy, 24, died in December 2005 in what his family believes was an accidental shooting north of Scottsville, his heart, lungs, liver, pancreas and kidneys were donated to patients waiting for organ transplants. Because he had signed up to be an organ and tissue donor, his death saved the lives of six Virginians. Pecolia DeBerry, a 48-year-old Newport News resident, received Jeremys kidney.
