WILTON Like many kids his age, John Scofield picked up a guitar because it was the cool thing to do. It was 1963, and the Beatles were popular. Though the guitar didn't actually make him a hit in Wilton, where he lived, Scofield took the music seriously, and has since become a renowned jazz guitarist. On Friday, April 13, Scofield will jam at the Ridgefield Playhouse, with Steve Swallow on bass and Bill Stewart on drums. "The Trio," as he calls it, plays straight-ahead jazz standards and original compositions.
